In September 2025, the Nordic Road Association (NVF) visited Torshavn to discuss the latest developments across the Nordic countries and take a closer look at tunnel issues on the Faroe Islands. On the first morning, we hosted an open event for the public, which included presentations from experts on various topics, such as emergency rescue facilities in tunnels in operation and the unique geological conditions of the Faroe Islands. Later that day, the delegates gathered to discuss the recent developments in each Nordic country.

On the second day, we were invited to a technical tour that included visiting Dalstunnelen (built by Landsverk), Sandoyartunnelen, Húsareynstunnelen, and having lunch at the pump station in Eysturoyartunnelen.

With over 66 km of existing tunnels and a planned 23 km subsea tunnel, the Faroe Islands have an unusually high number of tunnels and subsea tunnels. A tunneling policy that has given the island communities a remarkably high level of road connectivity, setting the stage for future growth and development.
Overall, it was a successful meeting, and we want to sincerely thank the tunnel committee in NVF for their efforts and the people of the Faroe Islands and Landsverk for their warm hospitality.
